Learning Experience Design is everywhere. It appears in job titles, conference sessions, course descriptions, and conversations across L&D. But ask five people what makes LXD different from instructional design and you may get five very different answers. So instead of beginning with a definition, let’s investigate the work.

This Build & Brew is a working session, not a presentation. We’ll take an ordinary learning request and examine what changes when we approach it through an LXD lens. What does an experience designer notice? What decisions do they make? What do they create? And what should someone be able to demonstrate before we say they can actually do LXD?

Bring your experience, your opinions, and your questions. Together we’ll build a working picture around what an LXD practitioner must know, do, experience, make, and prove. You may leave questioning a few things you thought you knew about learning design.

This is a working community session, not a presentation about publishing. Bring a book idea, a half-formed concept, or simply your curiosity. Expect to leave with practical ways to test your thinking and build a stronger book before writing chapter one.

Bring a song you think has training potential, your curiosity, and your laptop. You’ll leave with practical ideas for using music and AhaSlides to create learning people may actually remember.

Build Immersive Learning Worlds with Johanne Doty

What happens when learning stops feeling like a course and starts feeling like a world learners actually inhabit?

This September, Johanne Doty, Gamification Master Craftsman and creator of the immersive learning worlds Operation Shieldport and The Solis Campaign, will lead a special Toolbox Tutorial exploring how to design long-form narrative learning experiences that sustain engagement over weeks and months.

Participants will explore how role progression, recurring characters, mission structures, worldbuilding, and AI-supported interactions can transform asynchronous learning into deeply immersive experiences.
